MEET EMILY
A Fresh Vision for Our Schools
My name is Emily Serafy-Cox. I am the parent of a second grader at Bridge Street Elementary School, a committed community volunteer, and a candidate for Northampton School Committee Ward 3. I have spent the last 15 years of my life working with communities advocating for children through better education, transportation, housing and responsive government. Soy una madre y organizadora comunitaria para mejor educación, transportación, y casas para personas bajas recursos. Estoy preguntar para su vota en la elección de la comité de las escuelas.
I serve as Treasurer of the Ward 3 Neighborhood Association and volunteer with the Pioneer Valley Workers Center and the Green River Doula Network. Last year, during the implementation of the WINS inclusion program, I joined with dozens of other parents at Bridge Street School and successfully advocated for more resources and a thoughtful approach to the inclusion of students of all abilities into classrooms together.
My wife and I chose Northampton and Bridge Street School because of the values we share with the people here, such as promoting equity and excellence in education, involving the whole community in civic decision-making, and embracing positive change.
I am running for School Committee because I believe schools are vital to our community and I want to be a part of strengthening them for the future. I plan to work deeply with the community to make sure all voices are heard and to stand up for our shared values when faced with tough decisions.
